Dosing CBD, how many drops should you take?
CBD is becoming more and more popular, and that's not surprising! People are hearing more and more about the many health benefits of CBD, and the good thing is that it doesn't get you "high" (most CBD products contain less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC).
With more and more research being done on CBD and its effectiveness, especially in relieving pain, more and more people are choosing to add it to their daily wellness routine.
With us you can choose from various CBD products, such as oils, sweets, patches and capsules. But it is quite difficult to determine how much CBD you can use safely and effectively.
Here we explain how to find the right dose of CBD for you and how to take it safely.
Determine the right CBD dosage for you
The dosage of CBD is expressed in milligrams (mg) and mainly depends on the condition, symptoms you want to address, and your unique endocannabinoid system. This system is connected to motor control, behavior, emotions, the nervous system and balance within your body. Determining the right CBD dosage remains an area of active research—more extensive, high-quality studies are needed in different populations to establish appropriate dosage, effectiveness, and safety guidelines.
Starting with a small dose and gradually increasing it to achieve the desired effect is the best approach. You could start with half a CBD gummy or a drop of oil. Ideally, you should go through this process under the guidance of a qualified physician.
Calculate your CBD dose
With CBD gummies, capsules or softgels, the dosage is usually indicated per unit. For example, each individual gummy contains 25 milligrams of CBD. These products offer limited dosing flexibility because capsules cannot be easily divided. If one capsule does not give the desired result, you should take another full capsule, doubling the total dose.
On the other hand, CBD oil makes it easier to start with a small dose. Below is a schedule of the different percentages of CBD with the number of mg.
Item | Number of mg of CBD |
2.5% CBD | 1mg per drop |
5% CBD | 2mg per drop |
10% CBD | 4mg per drop |
40% CBD | 16mg per drop |
1 CBD gummy | 25mg |
1 CBD capsule | 50mg |
1 CBD patch | 30mg per day / 50mg per day |
5% CBN/CBC/CBG | 1mg per drop |

*Dose is based on small, short-term clinical trial results where CBD proved significantly more successful than placebo. Larger studies are needed to further strengthen the evidence.
The medical and research community has a long way to go to establish the ideal dose for any condition. On an individual level, consumers can experiment with caution until they find what works best for them.
